Common Business Challenges

by David on June 24, 2009

What is the single biggest issue that a business like yours faces right now?

Getting people to come to our site and to come with the right frame of mind, which ideally is that they come already believing they should be coming to our site. We are entirely web-based, so numbers give us a crack at success.

What are the other significant burning issues which you believe businesses like yours face?

Well it’s a circular process so the issues are connected.

Its important for us to build and gain authority and be part of the scene of others who have authority. That means everything from Google page rank to respected co-Twitterers.

And it means a long-term commitment and continually looking at how to improve service.

And that means not only having vision and intuition, but also getting and responding to feedback and that means getting the numbers to make the feedback informative.

These are indeed very common challenges for online businesses and I agree that long term commitment, perseverance and reflection are all vital.

What have you found to be the most effective method for drawing the right traffic to your site? Or do you find that it’s how you combine your efforts that makes them effective?

I don’t think I can give a definitive answer on what is the most effective method in the longer-term but su.pr from Stumbleupon has brought in a lot of traffic.

I think that being quick off the mark with new tools is important.

I don’t think that simply using everything that is available, without any discrimination, is a good policy.

I do think though that using everything that seem worthwhile is a good policy.

Obviously, I am talking about free avenues to bringing in visitors. For paid advertising the picture is governed by cost and return on investment in a much more clear-cut way.

For free avenues, the only downsides are time spent on developing them and the time and opportunity missed developing a better avenue.
