Cheap Meals in the House of Commons

by David on September 18, 2009

ITN News reported yesterday that something over half of the country’s 645 MPs owe a total of £140,000 for food eaten and drink drunk in what it describes as Parliament’s restaurants.

What the report also states is that food and drink in the Commons enjoys a subsidy of £6,100,000 per year.

£6,100,000 divided among 645 MPs is £9,457 per MP.

The £400 or £500 the late-paying MPs owe pales in comparison to the overall sum each MP gets in cheap meals.
