Thoughts On The Killing Series II

by David Bennett on December 3, 2011

Well that was episodes 5 and 6 tonight, and there is no way I want to miss the rest.

Still, Series I was a slow, deep look at the pain a family was going through in coming to terms with a death.

It was more than a crime thriller – it was a tragedy played out over several weeks.

Series II is speeding its way through the plot, and the victims.

And there have been some weak moments:

  • How convenient that the priest dropped the lawyer’s business card.
  • How implausible that the army chaplain would not have noticed that the magazine was missing from the pistol.
  • How implausible that the killer would have left the bag from the explosives lying around in the shed near Thomsen’s boat at the jetty.

And that is just from tonight’s two episodes.

It’s still very watchable, but I think it is trading on Series I and had there not been a previous series, I am not sure I would find this series so compelling.

It’s an interesting phenomenon – the ghost of the previous series somehow lifting up the second series to be something more than it is.
